GENTE  HACIENDO COSAS es un proyecto de Horaci Polanco que empezó de forma casual en 2004 en New York y que sigue creciendo hasta el día de hoy.

Se trata de fotografiar grupos de gente mientras hacen cosas como jugar, tocar música, esperar el tren, hacer fotos turísticas, bailar, pasear, descansar, etc

A pesar de que el objetivo del proyecto es la exploración de situaciones y los temas fotografiados son diversos, este proyecto no pretende ser un documento, bien clasificado y extenso de actividades. En todo caso, son fragmentos o situaciones en las que de alguna forma yo mismo estoy participando.

Esta web es un archivo no cronológico de éstas imágenes.

NOTAS DE ESTE PROYECTO

POR QUÉ
Las motivación principal de este proyecto gira alrededor del puro disfrute del proceso, es decir, salir a la calle y observar situaciones que resultan interesantes,  en general, por su total normalidad.   

ESPACIO PÚBLICO / REDES SOCIALES
El 99% de las imágenes de éste proyecto no han estado nunca publicadas en redes sociales. Esta actitud tan poco pragmática de difusión, se debe a:

1. No querer sentirme sometido a la dictadura del LIKE (o el dis-like).

2. Intentar evitar que las imágenes (y las personas que aparecen en ellas) tengan una difusión no legítima.

3. Intentar evitar que las imágenes de este proyecto sean parte de los sistemas de machine learning capaces de generar otras imágenes.

IMÁGENES DOCUMENTALES
Cada vez parece más difícil entender las imágenes como “documentación de la verdad”. Hoy en día, ya sea por la facilidad de editar imágenes o por la mera producción de imágenes perfectamente creíbles con IA, es posible que, por eso mismo, las peores fotos, sean las más útiles como documento pues resultan las más creíbles, es por eso, que no me preocupo en exceso de la calidad técnica de las imágenes que voy haciendo.

PEOPLE DOING THINGS is a project by Horaci Polanco that began casually in 2004 in New York and continues to grow to this day.

It involves photographing groups of people doing things like walking, waiting for the train, taking tourist photos, dancing, resting, etc.

Although the project's aim is exploratory and the photographed subjects are diverse, it is not intended to be a well-categorized, comprehensive document of activities. Instead, they are fragments or situations in which I myself am somehow participating.

This website is a non-chronological archive of these images.

NOTES ON THIS PROJECT

WHY
The main motivation for this project revolves around the pure enjoyment of the process, that is, going out into the street and observing situations that are interesting, in general, due to their total normality. 
 

PUBLIC SPACE / SOCIAL MEDIA
99% of the images in this project have never been published on social media. This rather unpragmatic attitude toward dissemination is due to:

1. Not wanting to feel subjected to the dictatorship of the LIKE (or the dislike).

2. Trying to prevent the images (and the people who appear in them) from being illegitimately disseminated.

3. Trying to prevent the images in this project from being used by machine learning systems capable of generating other images.

DOCUMENTARY IMAGES
It seems increasingly challenging to understand images as "documentation of the truth." Today, whether due to the ease of editing images or the mere production of perfectly credible images with AI, it is possible that, for this very reason, the worst photos are the most useful as documents because they are the most credible.

That is why I don't worry too much about the technical quality of the images that I publish here.
